Been a minute, as they say! Life has been unfolding in new and interesting ways (maybe one day I’ll write about my new Monday to Friday job, which I love) and while this won’t be a long update, I’ve got a few things to pass on. Onward!

First up, a bit of a teaser, I guess. Last week I signed the contract for my latest short story sale! I can’t say much about it until the publisher makes an announcement, but it’s a magazine market I have wanted to work with for decades. The story is a prate horror piece set in the late 18th Century, off the coast of Nova Scotia. I can’t wait to see this one out there in the world! Stay tuned for updates.

In other news, my last post here was an announcement about another short story sale which, unfortunately, didn’t end up working out. The anthology the story had been accepted into ended up not happening. As disappointing as it was, I hold no ill will against the folks behind that project. I’ve sent the piece out to quite a few markets since, hoping to find a home for it, but no luck yet. Writing to a specific submission theme carries a bit of a risk; if the piece isn’t accepted or the project doesn’t work out, it can be hard to “re-home” the story. All that said, I still think this is one of the best things I’ve written to date and I’ll keep trying to find a place for it.

Finally, an announcement… I’ve been selected as a Story Coach with the Alexandra Writers’ Centre‘s Author Development Program! From January to June of next year, I’ll be working with new and upcoming authors to develop their craft and get their manuscripts ready to send out into the submission trenches.
